World Food Day
World Food Day is an international day celebrated every year worldwide on 16 October to commemorate the date of the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945. The day is celebrated widely by many other organizations concerned with hunger and food security, including the World Food Program, the World Health Organization, and the International Fund for Agricultural Development. In the face of global crises, global solutions are needed more than ever. NEXDINE’s organizational foundations support many initiatives of World Food Day and global crisis. By aiming for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, we can transform agrifood systems and build forward better by implementing sustainable and holistic solutions that consider development in the long term, inclusive economic growth, and greater resilience.

NEXDINE’s Culinary Commitments:

World Food Day promotes sourcing, producing, and promoting affordable, nutritious foods while the hospitality organizations like NEXDINE should focus on putting healthy, minimally processed foods on the menu, and work to improve food safety and quality. In fact, there is an emphasis on public establishments such as schools, universities or hospitals should be the first to demand healthy food options from catering companies. NEXDINE’s culinary commitments align with World Food Day and as an organization, we commit to the following:

  • Our goal is to incorporate whole grains and legumes into all meals to promote nutritional balance.
  • All ingredients and cooking oils are free of engineered fats / trans fats and fresh herbs are utilized in place of salt-based seasonings.
  • All meats are USDA inspected, natural, free of additives or fillers and seafood is sourced from sustainable safe water sources. Our dairy products do not contain growth hormones.
  • We offer a large variety of vegetarian choices including the use of plant-based meat substitute products.

Local, Sustainable & Reduction in Food Waste:

Globally, 3 in 4 people facing poverty and food insecurity rely on agriculture and natural resources for their livelihoods. Organizations like NEXDINE can try to make a difference by being more climate-smart in our actions like choosing local foods that travel short distances from farm to table, limiting consumption of resource-intensive foods, and eating seasonal fruits and vegetables, which often require fewer chemical inputs. The use of fresh seasonal locally grown fruits and vegetables is a top priority and part of NEXDINE’s Culinary Commitments and how we support local agriculture. We incorporate seasonal, local, and signature ingredients throughout all our menus within NEXDINE. In addition, we partner with Babylon Farms to grow our own ingredients right onsite!

NEXDINE is also proud to partner with LeanPath as our Food Waste Prevention Platform Provider to decrease food waste throughout our operations. LeanPath’s food waste tracking solutions simplify the weighing and tracking of all our food waste. Data is compiled and analyzed, giving us complete visibility into our food waste stream. We believe it is important to utilize technology solutions like LeanPath to save time, money, and positively impact the environment.

NEXDINE’S Impact on the Community:

Food banks have been busier than ever in recent years and the number of displaced people has increased dramatically. There are many ways that people can give back from donating money and non-perishable goods to food banks and relief organizations but also how to volunteer at a local organization. NEXDINE frequently provides our colleagues with volunteer opportunities to give back at local food banks.
